A brief profile on some of our NDT specialist's qualification and professional achievements and staff available at SMS are given below.
Dr. P.U.Pathy, Ph.D (IIT, Chennai): Dr. Pathy joined SMS in 1998 has 27 years of experience in ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys as a metallurgist with leading machinery and equipment manufacturers of textile, sugar, cement, steel, power, petrochemical and heavy earth moving equipments. He has carried out many re-engineering and import substitution of many critical components used in these industries. He received training at Vulcan Engineering, Birmingham and Roibinson Foundry, USA in lost foam casting, advanced quality planning, QA & reliability and FMEA. His expertise worth mentioning are (a) achieved 85% yield and 25% increase in productivity in SG iron castings, (b) saved more than 200% cost by replacing flux core wire by solid wire in CO2 weld process and (c) RLA, condition monitoring and failure analysis in power and petrochemical industries.
Mr. M.Thavasi
Muthu, B.Eng, ASNT Lev-III, ISO 9000 Lead Auditor, MASNT, LMISNT: Mr.
Muthu joined us recently, specializes in various NDT methods and technical
auditing. Earlier he worked as senior scientist in the NDT Division of IGCAR,
Department of Atomic Energy and as a Manager (NDT) in PNG University of Technology
for industries in Papua New Guinea. He received specialized training from
IAEA-ISO and Fraunhofer Institute of NDT, Germany. He has 18 years of experience
in NDT of Nuclear plants, IAF-Aircrafts, ISRO and various other plants such
as Chemical, Fertilizer, Thermal etc. in the country. He has solved many NDT
problems encountered during his service and the results of these are published
in the national and international journals and proceedings, which numbered
to more than 35. He has co-authored with Dr. Baldev Raj and Dr. T.Jayakumar
for the book, "Practical Non-Destructive Testing" in which the practical
aspects of NDT for inspection of plant components has been brought out clearly.
He was awarded 'CV Raman Award' by the Acoustical Society of India for his
work on improving the sensitivity of ultrasonic test signals. His work on
testing of ceramic materials is referred in the ASNT Handbook, which is a
credit worth mentioning.
